National Honor Society
Centauri High School Chapter
National Honor Society is a national organization that is dedicated to recognizing outstanding academic and service achievements by students. It also promotes service by its members to the school district with the desire of improving the general educational environment.
Being selected to National Honor Society is an honor because it recognizes you as a good example in your school both academically and as a leader.
The Centauri High School Chapter of National Honor Society was established in 1965. Each year since then, it has expanded and developed in many ways. National Honor Society continues to stand as an academic organization, simply by the high standards of its members and organization.
To be eligible for National Honor Society, a student must have accumulated a grade point average of at least 3.5. All juniors and seniors with this grade point average are given an opportunity to be selected. A five member faculty committee screens eligible students in four areas: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. All new members are inducted into the chapter in the fall of the year at a special induction ceremony.
In order to be eligible for National Honor Society selection, you must maintain a 3.5 grade point average or above. Your grade point average, however, does NOT guarantee selection. Selection into National Honor society is based on scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
The five-member faculty committee, appointed by the principal, will review your service and leadership activities, and character evaluation by faculty members in addition to your grade point average.
Selection in CHS-NHS incurs a responsibility and an obligation to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that result in your selection. If the chapter is to be effective and meaningful, each member must become involved. You will be expected to live up to your obligations by participating in all of the CHS Chapter meetings and projects. Failure to do so could result in dismissal from the Centauri High School of National Honor Society.
